Standby Testing

Standby testing is available for students who submit registration forms after the late registration deadline. Because special accommodations require advanced notice, standby testing is available only to students who do not require special accommodations due to a disability. Standby testing requires a special fee in addition to the basic testing fee.

Standby testing should be a last resort for students wishing to take the ACT. Full payment of fees will not guarantee that the student can take the test. Standby students are admitted to test centers on the test day on a first-come first-served basis. Test centers are not required to accept standbys and will do so only if there are enough materials and staff remaining after all registered students have been admitted.

Students who must pursue the standby option should obtain a registration packet from their high school office or guidance counselor. Students should confirm the date and time that their desired test center will be offering the ACT. Students must arrive at the test center before 8:00 a.m. with a completed registration packet in a sealed envelope. The sealed envelope should also contain the appropriate testing fees in the form of a check or money order. Students should be prepared to show valid identification. Standby testers who are accepted into the test center will not be allowed to alter college codes or cancel score reports after the test date.

Students who are attempting to standby at test centers for Sunday or Monday exams must provide a notarized letter from their cleric attesting to the prohibition of Saturday testing due to the student's religious affiliation.
