Score Report Errors

Once a student receives their ACT score report, they may notice an error. The error can be a student error, a scoring error, or another type of error. Errors can be remedied if the student seeks the appropriate action for the error.

If the error was made by the student regarding personal information such as name or address, the student can write to ACT records. The written request for the change must occur within three months of receiving the score report. There is no fee required for the correction but it will cost $8.50 for each corrected report sent to a college. The student must enclose a copy of their report, a description of the error, and the desired correction.

If the error involves the student's score, the student can request that their test be hand-scored. The fee for this service is $30.00. Students may, for an additional fee, request to be present at the time of hand scoring. In order to request hand-scoring, students must provide their name, Social Security number, date of birth, test date, test center, and a check payable to ACT Records. Students will receive the results of the hand scoring within three to five weeks. If the error is found to be the fault of ACT, the student will be refunded the hand-scoring fee and their score reports will be resent to the colleges they selected as well as their high school at no additional cost.

If retesting is required as a result of an error on the part of ACT, the student will not have to pay to retake the test. If the error does not require a retest, corrected score reports will be resent to the student's college choices and high school at no additional charge.

All requests for corrections must be submitted in writing within three weeks of receiving the score report. Requests for corrections and hand scoring can be mailed to:
